MAJOR INVESTMENTS


Transportation

  • LaGuardia Airport| East Elmhurst, Queens | Ongoing

    • LGA is undergoing an $8 billion transformation to a single, structurally unified main terminal with better transportation access and first-class passenger amenities – the first complete rebuild of a US airport in over 25 years. All remaining construction is slated for completion in 2024. Most recently, LaGuardia’s Terminal B was named the best new airport terminal in the world, based on a global customer survey by the international transport rating organization Skytrax.

  • John F. Kennedy International Airport| Jamaica, Queens | Ongoing

    • The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, in collaboration with American Airlines and Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield Airports, is launching a $125 million commercial redevelopment initiative for Terminal 8 at JFK Airport. This project will introduce more than 60 new shopping and dining options, emphasizing local and diverse businesses, following a $400 million terminal expansion.

  • Newark Liberty International Airport| New York City Metropolitan Area | Ongoing

    • On January 12, Newark Liberty International Airport debuted the updated $2.7 billion Terminal A, offering 33 new gates serving Air Canada, American Airlines, JetBlue and United Airlines customers, directly connected to a multilevel parking facility. EWR is also working toward a new 2.5-mile elevated guideway train system to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions and ease traffic congestion.

  • Beluga24 Zero-Emission Ferry| Brooklyn & Manhattan | Spring 2024

    • This first-of-its-kind watercraft will usher in a new era of cleaner and more efficient marine transportation. The energy-efficient vessel will operate as part of the New York Water Taxi, running on the Hudson River between Brooklyn and Manhattan, with up to 147 passengers per ride and 28 bicycles.

  • High Line Moynihan Connector| Midtown Manhattan | June 2023

    • The High Line Moynihan Connector Civic Project creates an ADA-accessible pathway that connects the High Line to a publicly accessible space at Manhattan West. The $50 million project features two bridges extending to the Tenth Avenue terminus of the High Line, offering safe and scenic pedestrian access to the heavily trafficked area.

  • Marsha P. Johnson State Park| Williamsburg, Brooklyn | August 2023

    • Visitors to Marsha P. Johnson State Park (formerly known as East River State Park) will now enter through a new floral gateway, which was unveiled on what would have been the LGBTQ+ civil rights pioneer’s 78th birthday.

  • Gansevoort Peninsula| Meatpacking District, Manhattan | October 2023

    • Gansevoort Peninsula is Manhattan’s first public beach located on the shores of the Hudson River near Chelsea and the Meatpacking District, providing a relaxing area for sunbathing and leisure activities. Designed by James Corner Field Operations, the beach also features a large sports field, picnic tables and walking paths for visitors to enjoy.

  • Hudson River Park’s Pier 97| Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan | Fall 2023

    • In 2022, construction began on the proposed reimagination of Hudson River Park’s northernmost concrete pier. The plans call for an elevated belvedere with river views, food concession, a playground, a woodland walk and sunbathing lawn, together altering the Hell’s Kitchen recreational landscape.

  • Bronx Point| South Bronx |2023/2024

    • Bronx Point is a 530,000-square-foot mixed-use development in the South Bronx, opening in phases with housing, retail, public space and cultural programming including the Hip Hop Museum in 2025.

  • New York City Football Club Stadium| Willets Point, Queens | 2027

    • As part of a private-public partnership, NYCFC will fully finance and build New York’s first professional soccer stadium. The Willets Point project will have 25,000 seats, a new public school, 40,000 square feet of public open space and will bring 2,500 affordable homes to the community. The project will also add an estimated 16,000 jobs and predicted $6 billion to the City’s economy.

  • TSX Broadway| Times Square, Manhattan | Ongoing

    • TSX Broadway, a 550,000-square-foot hotel, theater, dining and retail tower, has already taken center stage with the unveiling of its 18,000-square-foot podium LED Screen where visitors and locals alike can upload 15-second videos casting over Times Square. The space is also home to the brand-new Tempo by Hilton Times Square, with additional developments to open in phases.

  • NYC Hotel Week| Citywide | January/February 2024

    • Launched in 2022, NYC Hotel Week is NYC Tourism + Convention’s newest signature program. NYC Hotel Week is a play on the calendar year with its upcoming iteration occurring from January 3–February 4, 2024, offering a 24% discount off the standard room rate at hundreds of the City’s finest hotels across all five boroughs during the winter season.

  • Renaissance New York Harlem Hotel | Harlem, Manhattan | August 2023 

    • Renaissance Hotels debuted a new hotel in the heart of Harlem in the Victoria Theater development, which contains the 211–guest room tower, a residential tower and a new expansion of the Apollo Theater.

  • Motto by Hilton Times Square | Midtown Manhattan | August 2023

    • This 131-room boutique hotel is a new addition to Lower Manhattan. The property features modern design elements including a vibrant, multicolored Piet Mondrian–inspired glass facade, bespoke decor inspired by the City’s art scene and more.

  • Tempo by Hilton Times Square | Midtown Manhattan | August 2023

    • Located in the heart of the City, this new 661-room hotel is the first property and flagship for Hilton’s newest lifestyle hotel brand. The hotel is equipped with unmatched views and is only a few steps away from all the quintessential NYC attractions including Central Park, Rockefeller Center, Radio City and more. The hotel also boasts an outdoor terrace overlooking the City and a sky lobby bar and lounge.

  • Residence Inn/SpringHill Suites by Marriott | Long Island City, Queens | August 2023

    • This dual-branded Marriott property includes a 135-room Residence Inn and a 270-room SpringHill Suites offering views of the Manhattan skyline and easy access to area attractions such as MoMa PS1, Silvercup Studios and Roosevelt Island.

  • The Fifth Avenue Hotel | Nomad, Manhattan | October 2023

    • Now open, The Fifth Avenue Hotel combines a historic 1907 Renaissance-style building known as The Mansion with a modern 24-floor glass tower. Located in Manhattan's Nomad neighborhood at 250 Fifth Avenue, this property offers 153 rooms and suites designed by Martin Brudnizki Design Studio.

  • avid Hotel Brooklyn | Dyker Heights, Brooklyn | October 2023

    • IHG's avid hotel brand has opened its first NYC property, the avid hotel Brooklyn – Dyker Heights, offering 76 well-designed rooms with sound sleep features and a complimentary 'Good all round' breakfast.

  • Aloft New York Chelsea | Chelsea, Manhattan | November 2023

    • The latest addition to Aloft’s NYC portfolio is scheduled to open in November 2023 and will offer 234 stylish guest rooms over 32 floors. The property includes amenities such as the WXYZ bar with live music, a fitness center, complimentary wireless internet and a meeting room.

  • The Surrey, A Corinthia Hotel, New York | Upper East Side, Manhattan | 2024

    • Corinthia, the renowned luxury hotel brand, will open its first NYC location on the Upper East Side where the historic Surrey Hotel once stood. The hotel, set to open in spring/summer 2024, aims to restore the property's former glamour and sophistication.

  • The Warren Street Hotel | Tribeca, Manhattan | 2024

    • 2024 will welcome Firmdale Hotels’ third NYC property, The Warren Street Hotel will boast 57 individually designed rooms and 12 exclusive residences with spectacular city views along with an inviting drawing room, an airy Orangery, and the Warren Bar and Restaurant.

  • Powerhouse Arts | Gowanus, Brooklyn | May 2023

    • After a 10-year renovation, Powerhouse Arts has officially opened in Brooklyn's Batcave, a former power plant in Gowanus, providing state-of-the-art fabrication facilities for ceramics, printing and public art, as well as space for events and education.

  • Armstrong Corona Campus| Corona, Queens | June 2023

    • After undergoing a physical and programmatic expansion, the Armstrong Corona Campus, formerly known as the Louis Armstrong House, has debuted a new cultural center with an interactive exhibit, archival collections, a 68-seat jazz club and store, all dedicated to celebrating and preserving the life and legacy of the legendary jazz musician Louis Armstrong.

  • 100th Anniversary of Museum of the City of New York| East Harlem, Manhattan | August 2023

    • The Museum of the City New York celebrates its 100th anniversary this year. The museum has amassed a collection of over 750,000 objects including photographs, prints, costumes, paintings and more to celebrate, document and interpret the City’s past, present, soon-to-be-announced and future works.

  • Perelman Performing Arts Center at the World Trade – PAC NYC| Lower Manhattan | September 2023

    • Now open, the Perelman Performing Arts Center (PAC NYC) is home to emerging and established artists in theater, music, opera, dance, film and media. PAC NYC celebrates life and humanity and has become a premier cultural destination in Lower Manhattan.

  • The Center for Brooklyn History | Brooklyn Heights, Brooklyn | September 2023

    • The Center for Brooklyn History (CBH), formerly known as the Brooklyn Historical Society, has reopened with a new exhibition titled Brooklyn Is.... CBH, a result of a 2020 merger between the historical society and the Brooklyn Public Library, aims to draw a broader audience with free admission and a more welcoming entrance, emphasizing the diverse stories found within Brooklyn's history and identity.

  • 75th Anniversary of New York City Ballet | Upper West Side, Manhattan | October 2023

    • The New York City Ballet celebrates its 75th anniversary this year. The first performance took place on October 11, 1948, on West 55th Street at the City Center for Music and Drama, consisting of three ballets, Concerto Barocco, Orpheus and Symphony in C, and was choreographed by co-founder George Balanchine. The anniversary season will continue through Summer 2024 with more than 60 ballets and more than 25 weeks of performances.

  • 75th Anniversary of the Ukrainian Institute of America| Upper East Side, Manhattan | 2023

    • The nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the art, music and literature of Ukraine and the Ukrainian diaspora is celebrating its 75th anniversary.

  • 50th Anniversary of Hip-Hop| Citywide | 2023/2024

    • This year marks the 50th anniversary of the birth of hip-hop music, founded in the Bronx on August 11, 1973, when Clive Campbell—better known as DJ Kool Herc—spun records at his sister’s birthday party. Throughout the year, the City is celebrating with various offerings across the boroughs.

  • Apollo Performing Arts Center| Harlem, Manhattan | Spring 2024

    • The iconic theater is expanding for its first time, with the Victoria Theater Redevelopment Project that will introduce two new stages, creating an arts campus in Harlem.

  • Grey Art Gallery | Noho, Manhattan | Spring 2024

    • New York University’s fine arts museum is moving to 18 Cooper Square in spring 2024. In addition to the move, the gallery will be renamed Grey Art Museum.

  • Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center| West Village, Manhattan | June 2024

    • The first visitor center within the national park system dedicated to LGBTQ+ history will open in New York City in 2024. The Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center will honor and explore the history of the 1969 Stonewall Uprising and will be located at a storefront in Greenwich Village, next door to the historic Stonewall Inn.

  • Brooklyn Museum 200th Anniversary | Prospect Heights, Brooklyn | July 2024

    • The Brooklyn Museum will celebrate its 200th anniversary starting in July 2024.

  • The Morgan Library & Museum 100th Anniversary | Murray Hill, Manhattan | Fall 2024

    • In fall 2024, in honor of its 100th anniversary, The Morgan Library & Museum will present a major exhibition honoring the life and career of its inaugural director, Belle da Costa Greene (1879–1950).

  • The Frick Collection | Upper East Side, Manhattan | 2024

    • The Frick Collection will go back to its original home at The Frick Mansion in late 2024. The 60,000-square-foot mansion has been repurposed and will include 27,000 square feet of new construction.

  • The Hip Hop Museum | South Bronx | 2025

    • Located just south of Yankee Stadium, this space will pay homage to the South Bronx’s rich culture and history as the birthplace of hip-hop.

  • The American LGBTQ+ Museum | Upper West Side, Manhattan | 2026

    • The New-York Historical Society will incorporate a museum dedicated to LGBTQ+ history. Slated to open in 2026, The American LGBTQ+ Museum will be NYC’s first museum dedicated to showcasing global, national and local LGBTQ+ history and culture.

  • Vulnerable Landscapes at the Staten Island Museum | Randall Manor, Staten Island | Through December 30, 2023

    • Vulnerable Landscapes centers on the Staten Island shorelines at the forefront of climate change in NYC. The site-specific exhibition examines the past while navigating the route forward.

  • Shelley Niro: 500 Year Itch at National Museum of the American Indian | Lower Manhattan | Through January 1, 2024

    • This exhibition examines and celebrates more than 50 years of Shelley Niro’s paintings, photographs, films and more. Filled with humor and references to pop culture, the exhibition offers a glimpse into the artist’s timeless cultural knowledge and generational history of her Six Nations Kanyen’kehá:ka (Mohawk) community. 

  • Michael Richards: Are You Down? at The Bronx Museum of the Arts | South Bronx | Through January 7, 2024

    • This new exhibition is the first museum retrospective of Michael Richards’ visionary artworks, showcasing sculptures, drawings, installation and video work he created between 1990 and 2001 prior to his passing on September 11.

  • Barkley L. Hendricks: Portraits at the Frick at The Frick Madison | Upper East Side, Manhattan | Through January 7, 2024

    • The Frick Madison celebrates and explores the remarkable work of Barkley L. Hendricks with a focused selection of 14 early portrait paintings by the artist drawn from private and public collections.

  • Craft Front & Center: Exploring the Permanent Collection at the Museum of Arts and Design | Midtown Manhattan | Through January 14, 2024

    • Craft Front & Center: Exploring the Permanent Collection showcases the Museum of Arts and Design’s growing permanent collection of over 3,500 objects. The exhibit will feature a fresh installation of more than 60 historic works and new acquisitions dating from the golden age of the American Craft movement to the present day.

  • Henry Taylor: B Side at Whitney Museum of American Art | Meatpacking District, Manhattan | Through January 28, 2024

    • The Whitney hosts the first exhibition to survey the career of leading contemporary artist Henry Taylor. The retrospective features paintings, drawings, sculptures and installations celebrating the artist’s widely appreciated unique aesthetic, social vision and freewheeling experimentation.

  • Spike Lee: Creative Sources at Brooklyn Museum | Prospect Heights, Brooklyn | Through February 4, 2024

    • Brooklyn Museum’s newest exhibition offers a rare glimpse into the world of one of the most influential filmmakers and directors, Spike Lee. The immersive installation includes objects drawn from the Brooklyn-raised director’s personal collection, allowing visitors to discover the sources of inspiration that have shaped his creative output over the decades.

  • Picasso in Fontainebleau at Museum of Modern Art | Midtown Manhattan | Through February 17, 2024

    • Picasso in Fontainebleau examines three months in the legendary artist’s career when Picasso created an astonishingly varied body of work from July through September 1921 in the town of Fontainebleau, France. The exhibition also sees the return of four monumental works on canvas, both versions of Picasso’s Three Musicians and Three Women at the Spring and additional works he made in Fontainebleau.

  • Something Beautiful: Reframing La Colección at El Museo del Barrio | East Harlem, Manhattan | Through March 10, 2024

    • One of El Museo del Barrio’s most ambitious presentations to date features a unique, complex and culturally diverse collection spanning over two decades. The exhibition presents approximately 500 artworks, including artist commissions and acquisitions, focusing on the contributions of Amerindian, African and European cultures, through rotating displays.

  • Running for Civil Rights: The New York Pioneer Club at New-York Historical Society | Upper West Side, Manhattan | October 27, 2023–February 25, 2024

    • Running for Civil Rights will explore the origins of the New York City Marathon through the activism and innovation of the New York Road Runners and the New York Pioneer Club, two running organizations that changed long distance running in the United States. The exhibitions examine the leadership and legacy of two African American runners, Ted Corbitt (1919-2007) and Joseph Yancey (1910-1991), and their instrumental role in democratizing long distance running in the US.

  • Medieval Money, Merchants, and Morality at The Morgan Library & Museum | Murray Hill, Manhattan | November 10, 2023–March 10, 2024

    • The Morgan Library & Museum will highlight the economic revolution that took place toward the end of the Middle Ages and at the beginning of the Renaissance in a new exhibition. The collection will feature some of the most acclaimed manuscripts in The Morgan’s collection including a Renaissance purse, a brass alms box and a hoard of coins.

  • The Secret World of Elephants at American Museum of Natural History | Upper West Side, Manhattan | November 13, 2023–TBD

    • The American Museum of Natural History will debut a special exhibition revealing new science about both modern and ancient elephants such as mammoths and mastodons, highlighting their extraordinary minds and senses. The exhibition will also delve into how the creatures “hear” with their feet and use the 40,000 muscles in their trunks and more.

  • The Harlem Renaissance and Transatlantic Modernism at The Metropolitan Museum of Art | Upper East Side, Manhattan | February 25–July 28, 2024

    • Coming in February 2024, this groundbreaking exhibition will feature 160 works of painting, sculpture, photography, film and ephemera exploring the comprehensive and far-reaching ways Black artists showcased everyday modern life in new Black cities throughout the 1920s–40s in Harlem and nationwide.

  • TCS New York City Marathon | Citywide | November 5, 2023

    • The world’s largest marathon brings more than 50,000 runners representing some 100 countries to run the 26.2 miles throughout the five boroughs.

  • New York Sail Grand Prix | New York Harbor | June 22–23, 2024

    • The international sailing competition returns to the City next summer as part of its 12-race global circuit across four continents.

  • New York City Pride | Citywide | June 30, 2024

    • The annual NYC Pride March stands as one of the world's largest, drawing tens of thousands of participants and millions of spectators along the sidewalks annually. Additional celebrations will take place throughout all five boroughs; details to be announced soon.

  • The Army-Navy Football Game Presented by USAA | New York City & New Jersey | 2026

    • This past summer, it was announced that New York City, along with the state of New Jersey, will be the host city for The Army-Navy Football Game presented by USAA in 2026. The game will be hosted at the Meadowlands Complex as part of the 25th anniversary of 9/11 and will be the 19th time the game has been played in New York or New Jersey.

  • FIFA 2026 World Cup | New York City & New Jersey | 2026

    • FIFA has announced New York/New Jersey as a host city for the 2026 World Cup. Additional details, including which games will be held in the area, will be shared as they are announced.

  • America 250th Anniversary | New York City & Nationwide | 2026

    • In 2026, the United States will celebrate 250 years since its founding. NYC will celebrate in a big way as the nation’s first capitol, the birthplace of American government, and the place where the Bill of Rights was written.

    • The NYC Tourism + Conventions signature program runs each winter, offering 2-for-1 tickets to attractions, museums, tours and more.

  • The Hudson and High Line 5K Fun Run – Fit Tours NYC | Hudson Yards & Chelsea, Manhattan | October–December 2023

    • Go on a guided running tour through the Hudson River pathway down to Chelsea via the High Line’s elevated railway park for exhilarating views of NYC. The running tour is available on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 7am.

  • Times Square Morning Walkabout – Fit Tours NYC | Times Square, Manhattan | October–December 2023

    • The Balloon Museum is making its US debut this October. The immersive art experience is making an appearance in NYC with its Let’s Fly exhibition featuring fun and unique installations from 13 international artists, The exhibition will also include a room filled with inflatable lava lamps and a 4,000-square-foot ball pit that visitors can float on.

  • Datz Deli | Lower East Side, Manhattan | Fall 2023

    • A Queens deli is looking to expand to the Lower East Side this fall. Datz Deli is behind one of the year’s most viral dishes: a Jamaican beef patty filled with oxtail meat and macaroni. The second location will serve a similar menu as the deli in Hollis, Queens, but with a new look.

  • Hamburger America | Soho, Manhattan | Fall 2023

    • This new burger joint by burger scholar George Motz will be a homage to classic hamburger joints of yesteryear. The limited menu will include Motz’s signature Oklahoma fried onion cheeseburger; a regular smash burger with mustard, pickle, and onion; and a third burger that highlights a regional style each month. Diners will also enjoy fresh cookies, egg creams and Rhode Island’s coffee milk.

  • Metropolis | Lower Manhattan | Fall 2023

    • The newly opened Perelman Performing Arts Center (PAC NYC) will be the home of Marcus Samuelsson’s newest restaurant, Metropolis. Coming this fall, the restaurant will curate a menu inspired by culinary scenes throughout the five boroughs.

  • Confidant | Industry City, Brooklyn | Spring 2024

    • In the heart of Brooklyn's Little Caribbean, Fe Noel opened its first brick-and-mortar designer outlet, focusing on sustainability by repurposing deadstock fabrics for limited-run designs.   • GSTQ | Midtown Manhattan | October 2023

    • GSTQ, the apparel brand by entrepreneur Dany Garcia, has opened a temporary 2,000-square-foot pop-up shop at Rockefeller Center, offering their full fall and holiday collections for men and women. The shop features a complete store-like experience with new branding and inclusive sizing, and it will host various events while remaining open through the end of January.

  • Van Cleef & Arpels | Upper East Side, Manhattan | Fall 2023
